Editing
I'm a firm believer that self-published books should be treated as professionally as a traditionally published book. It's quite a bit of money to be paying upfront and it was something I gave a lot of consideration to when deciding whether or not to self-publish my first book, A Beginner's Guide To Salad. I knew I would never put a book out there without it being professionally edited, so I had to decide whether it was worth the gamble or not. Obviously, I took a punt and self-published and the editing fees were so worth it in the end!
It took three drafts before I was finally ready to send Everything Changes But You off to be edited. I used the same editor I had for A Beginner's Guide To Salad as I'd had such a positive experience working with Ruth before. It amazes me the things you can miss while writing your book - and not just the spelling and grammar! It doesn't matter how many drafts or read-throughs I do with a book, I will still switch people around or have someone sit down twice without having stood up in between etc. This is why a fresh pair of eyes is invaluable!
Everything Changes But You has now been edited and I've started the proofreading stage, which I'll be discussing next time.
