Insecure Writer's Support Group - July

The idea of the Insecure Writers Support Group is for writers to blog on the first Wednesday of the month about their fears, struggles and triumphs they have experienced with their writing.

The end of Draft Two is in sight and I can't tell you how relieved I'll be when it's done. I'm exhausted, more mentally than physically. So I'm very much looking forward to a little break. I've still got faith in the story but I need some time away from it. Do other people ever feel like this?

The book needs another draft so I'll take a few weeks off from it so I can go back to it with fresh eyes. In the meantime I'll do a bit more planning for Book 3 and pick up on my family tree project, which I haven't done for ages and I'm itching to get back to it.

What do you do when you've finished a draft? Do you have a break or dive straight back in? Do you celebrate your achievement in any way?

  1. I'm stuck between draft limbos at the moment! At first I thought I would just straight back in and keep writing the next book in the series but I've found that I do need some sort of break. The problem with that is I find it difficult to get back into it once I've stopped. I think the key is to give yourself a designated amount of time off and then make yourself get back to writing!

    1. I find it really difficult to get going again once I've had a break. But I really do need a break!

  2. Sometimes I break between stages like drafting and editing. Right now I need to get a project completed where I can move on to others! I've subscribed to your blog in my Google reader today! Nice to meet you Mama J.

    1. Nice to meet you too, Brinda.

I also like to have a break between the different stages. By the time I've got through a draft, a break is definitely needed.

  3. I always take a break between drafts. I think a bit of distance can help us see more clearly what works and what doesn't.

    1. I think so too. It definitely happened between drafts one and two of this book. I had quite a bit to change but I think (hope) it's improved the plot.

  5. Congrats on almost finishing your next draft!

I usually take a break between drafts and let CPs and the like to have a go at it.

  6. A break is always nice. Let the ideas and new draft set a while, simmer on the back burner. Treat yourself to something fun. :)Congrats on the almost finish!

  7. It's wonderful to hear that you've now finished draft two -- you deserve your "Wahoo!" I hope to echo your "Wahoo" when I finish another revision pass in a week or so. Only one left to go, I hope.
Good luck in all you do. :-)
