A-Z of Writing - T

A strange thing has happened. Titles used to be a thing of frustration. I enjoyed writing books but I did not enjoy trying to find a fitting (not totally shit) title. But the book I have just finished and the one I am about to start both had titles from the very beginning. They both came very easy to me.

It feels quite weird not having to worry about it. But I'm in no hurry to go back to the hair-pulling-out-what-am-I-going-to-call-this days.

How do you find naming your books? And do you have any tips for finding that elusive title?

  1. I try to come up with a title before I start a novel, now that doesn't mean it won't change somewhere along the way, but like an outline, I find it helpful to at least start with a title.

    1. I wish I could always think of a title - even a temporary one.

  2. Sometimes the titles come so easily and other times, it's a struggle. I have no idea why. For my stories, I do try to have a title that has a deeper meaning to the reader once the they've read the story.

    1. It's strange how some titles pop out at you while other stories seem like they're never going to have a title.

  3. If the titles come to you then don't rock the boat! Take them and be grateful. I struggle with titles so much. Maybe one day I'll learn the skill but for now I've got to go comb my hair to cover the bald spots. :)

    1. Oh, I'm extremely grateful when it happens (which it usually doesn't).

  4. With some stories it's pretty easy to find a good title. Other times I still have my stories named after my characters' first names.

    1. I've had stories named after the main character, purely so I have something to call it.
